In contemporary political theory, non-violence has become more emphasized as a legitimate type of strategy. While the general consensus of the philosophy of social struggle is that nonviolence is more beneficial in the long run, the effectiveness of nonviolence and violence as means of resistance is very dependent on the individual situation.Nonviolent Resistance Helped by Communication Methods - Non-violent activism has played a critical role in several transitions from authoritarianism like, the withering away of the Soviet Union and the Apartheid in South Africa. For many activists, non-violent action has become an effective way to achieve social or political goals.Nonviolence is a very effective form of protest because people can get the rights and authority that they fight for from the hostile class, government or country without sanguinary wars. Nonviolence is a philosophy and strategy for social change that rejects the use of violence.
Non-Violent Resistance One of the memories that come to mind when Martin Luther King Jr. is mentioned is his constant refusal to cooperate with an evil system. Historically, King is known as an advocate of civil disobedience through nonviolent resistance.Nonviolent resistance is the oppression of laws that have been put into place. The oppression simply states that you will not do as the laws have directed you to do, although your actions are in a non-threatening manner. We have seen many acts of nonviolent resistance throughout our current life and throughout history.
Through the practical experience of leading nonviolent protest, King came to understand how nonviolence could become a way of life, applicable to all situations. King called the principle of nonviolent resistance the “guiding light of our movement. Christ furnished the spirit and motivation while Gandhi furnished the method” (Papers 5:423).
